Finish-a-thon Message Post

First, since I am going to be overseas when the stories are due, I'm giving everyone a week's extension. That means that stories will be due 10pm, 2nd November 2007 (GMT). You can post them to your journal/website earlier if you like, but the master-post won't be going up until then.

Second, if anyone has any "Sorry, I can't finish!" messages and the like, post them in the comments here -- that way they will all be in one place, and this post will be here, waiting for them.

Oh, thank God!

I was figuring I'd still be able to get my fic done by the deadline, but I do have a massive project with work that's going to keep me tied up til the 18th, so this will take a little of the pressure off.

If I can't meet the 10k words requirement by Nov 2, will that count as failing? (RL creeps up on me unexpectedly)

The 10K words requirement is only for people who declared "this story is an epic, it will not be possible to finish it, therefore I commit to writing 10K words". The normal requirement is simply to finish the story; the wordcount for that is irrelevant, since stories tend to have a natural length of their own. So far as I can tell, you didn't commit to writing 10K words, so all you have to do is finish the story.

That being said, there are three possibilities:
(a) you succeed -- yay
(b) you do not complete the assignment (whether that be 10K words or finished story) but you leave a nice note in this post. This gets you a gold star for participating.
(c) you do not complete the assignment, and you do not leave a note. This gets you blacklisted from participating again.

My commitment was a little different. I set out to edit up to chapter 40 of an epic.... and due to RL, there's just no way I'm getting that far. Chapter 15 will probably be as far as I can get. Though, the chapters are usually in the range of 6,000 words each. :/

I fail at life.

And next time I'm only submitting short fics. O_o

I'm in kind of a weird situation. I'm totally on track to finish at least 10,000 words of the epic -- probably more, since I have the extra week! But I've been writing the fic nonsequentially, and there will probably be some scenes in the middle that I haven't written yet. My worry is that I will complete the challenge but have nothing coherent to post. Is there a way to work this so I can get credit for honoring my commitment without having to post a fic that contains a lot of "Insert Scene Here" and material that doesn't make sense because I haven't written the context yet?

I'm not sure. Obviously it makes no sense to post it if there are bits missing, but... I'll have to think about it.

It's not going to be in anything resembling postable shape by the deadline -- we should probably just consider me a dropout. Thanks for running this, though, and I did get a lot of work done on the fic!

Oh thank god, I just came over here because I realised I'm going to be away that weekend. Now all I have to do is figure out who the last three characters can be. Piece of cake.

I'm pretty sure I won't be able to finish 10K of my epic until mid-November, and even if I do I'll be in the same boat as

mosca. So this is my totally-bummed two weeks' notice, replete with apologetic internet cookies.

Oh well.

So, yeah.

I'm really glad this challenge exists, though! I'll do my best to finish the story anyway on my own time.

Yeah, I suck, and I shall have to give up for this year. ::headdesk::

But I reinjured my foot and all the limping and inconvenience has meant crashing nose down in bed every night instead of staying up writing, and that with various other Real Life factors has rendered it impossible for me to finish my fic by the deadline, even with the extension.

This season did not go the way I had planned.

I have 7k done (and another 5 in notes, outlines and snippets) and the story is still very much in the beginning stages.

Work suddenly exploded on me for the past two weeks and I had to cut back on the ficcing. I am likely going to have to cut back on the ficcing in general in the next few weeks too (we'll see after a meeting I have in the next few days) Possibly November is a wash for any and all ficcing. time (and meetings) will tell.

anyway, I gave it a good shot, but my grand plan of finishing both my first and second place winners in this? not so much. 90 pages of one (haven't done a wordcount), and 7k ish words in the other (plus omgplanning) isn't bad, but I fail :(

I don't think I'm going to be able to finish my fic.

I can finish, but it's very possible it will be late -- I got sidetracked by moving and just RL in general. I will try to finish ASAP, however.

Okay, I lied. RL has imploded on me in some truly awful ways, so there's no way this is going to get finished.

While I have a good start on my fic, and totally plan to finish it soon-like, I don't know that it'll be done by the deadline. That said, I work best under pressure, so maybe it will be. :)

Unfortunately I won't be able to make even the extended deadline. Work has been a bitch and I haven't had a chance to write a single word on anyhing all month. I was hoping to be able to work on it this last week before the deadline, but my workload hasn't lightened, so I don't know if that will be possible or not. If I do, it will be a pleasant surprise, but I don't want to be blacklisted for next year, because I love this challenge, so I figured I'd better bow out while I have a chance.

I'll be putting up a master-post on the 2nd of November, that's where you should give the link to your finished story. The only reason to give a link here in this post, is if you don't think you'll have net access when the master-post goes up.

That will pretty much be the case! I'm about to go out of town for a few days. :)

I'm really sorry to have to do this, but I'm going to have to withdraw. I've been working on original fiction so much lately, I haven't wanted to set it aside for something else. I totally thought I could squeeze my story in, but now NaNoWriMo stars in less than two hours, and...I really can't. :(

Is the 10PM GMT time a drop dead time? In other words, if we haven't posted by then, have we failed? I ask because I'll be at work at that time, and I want to know if I need to have it posted before I go to work that day.

There's probably going to be a bit of leeway, as that's about 9am Saturday my time. I'll probably put up the master-post today, so that people can post there early if they want to.

Heading out for the weekend and not sure what the net access will be like so I'm posting this now.

I was truly hoping to finish this story this year, after sort of punking out a bit last year. The Finish-a-thon was the one ficathon I planned on doing in my writer's resolutions for 2007.

But I've written a grand total of about 500 new words on this project.

If you need to put me on the "banned" list for next year, that's okay; this was really inexcusable. No broken foot, no fire evacuation, no crazy real life issues; I wasn't even working on original fiction. (I've been a horrible slacker for the past month at least.)

I'm so sorry. :-( Thank you so much for giving me the chance to work on this, though; I'm planning to keep working on it this month, as a kind of unofficial NaNoWriMo project.

Sadly, I'm not finished. :-( RL has been kicking my ass -- between Monster #1 getting suspended from school, weird and totally random food allergies cropping up on me and a new job, I haven't had as much time as I'd hoped to write. I am going to keep going on the story though....
