This is the Master-List for the Finish-a-thon 2005! The stories are due TODAY. Participants, post your story somewhere (a web page, your LJ) and give the link in a comment to this post; I will update the main post.

Your story must be posted whether it is finished or not. Whether it is beta-read or not. Just give us what you have so far, letting us know in the comment whether it is finished, unbetaed, or unfinished. But don't panic. I am allowing another week for participants, if they so desire, to post revised versions; just give another comment to this post, letting us know that there is a revised version available (and give an updated link if it needs one). I will update the master-list.

Note for readers: the stories here are an enormously wide mixture, from G to NC-17, gen to slash to anything in between. Caveat Emptor!

I didn't manage to finish my finish-a-thon story (ah, the irony), but what I did manage to get down is here:

'A Tale Unfolds' by entropy_house, is up. It's Blakes' 7, Gen, and I think it's finished. Possibly might be minor tweaks, but I doubt it. Has had one quick beta (thanks! [livejournal.com profile] blakefancier) but under the circumstances, it may still have Evil Typos. :^)

I'd call this one temporarily unfinished.

Eclipse

That's a link to the first entry; there are currently five, and they're all linked together.

I said my fic was meant to be a prologue, four acts, and an epilogue. Well, it grew on me. I finished the four acts, but there's at least one more act, maybe two, remaining to be written before the story can draw to a close. So I'm posting what I have complete (though unbeta'ed), and maybe (if I'm lucky) I'll be able to finish the rest of it over the weekend.

The research on this sucker has been kicking my ass; I'd forgotten how much sci-babble the average Stargate episode requires, and Pitch Black was such a very, very visual world I've had to get more descriptive than I'm used to if I want to capture the scenes adequately. I think I've done a decent job, but it's taken so much freaking time to get even one scene on paper, I've wanted to rip my hair out by the roots several times.

Alright. Mostly finished (I still need to add a bit at the end, but the story stands all right); very much unbeta'd. :-P

I have... a really good outline and two unrevised paragraphs, which I'd just as soon nobody read yet. I shall be making full use of the week to revise. However, I've complied by posting the two paragraphs on my site; I'm NOT gonna post the outline, because that would spoil it.

On the up side, it's definitely my story; Jarriere gets his foot in the door in the first paragraph. ;-)

I've finished the fic, but don't see any point in posting it before it's been betaed (why would people want to read unbetaed and unfinished stuff is beyond me). Hopefully I can get it back and polished up today, as it's still Saturday where I am;).

Frigging heck, I had the wrong date written down!

This is a WIP. Neither the characters or my real life cooperated, so I'm just going to continue to evolve it as I can.

I'm on US Eastern Time and I remembered the deadline as being Jan 28; well, it's Jan 28 here for the next three and a half hours. :-) I always forget the conversion to Australian time.

I got almost exactly half of the 15,000 words I'd planned -- 7,400 -- and it needs a medical beta reader if I can find one (any gynecologists in the audience? :-)) but it's a self-contained section of about the size as most of the sections I've previously released.

The Body Snatcher, Chapter 3, Part D (http://www.alara.net/xbooks/body3d.html)

The previous parts of the story as well as the disclaimer can be found at The Body Snatcher Main Page (http://www.alara.net/xbooks/bodydisc.html).

I always need to hit the page twice to make it load. Dreamhost aren't the most responsive of hosts, apparently. On the other hand, they were dirt cheap and I like their TOS.

I think maybe the next time you have a ficathon, announce that the deadline for Americans is the night before it really is and then add at the bottom that Aussies have until the actual deadline Australian time (whichever Australian time zone you're in). Americans will just ignore anything that says it's just for Aussies, but the Europeans will pay attention to the whole post. :-)

Well, you *could* give the date as GMT date/ and Australian date.

You might want to consider also sending a group email to participants at the time you put up the Master Post, saying there's 24 hours from *NOW* to post whatever they have.

Well, when it's your ficathon, you set the rules. But in my limited experience, no matter *what* the rules are, someone's going to get confused by them, or ask to be excused from following them. It seems to be a law of fandom.

I hope you had more fun than annoyance out of this finishathon. :^) I enjoyed it, even though I didn't do as well as I'd hoped.

Ah well, fair or not, it's now finished and betaed and yay!

Booty Call (http://snowgrouse.livejournal.com/727240.html) (soft NC-17, maybe R, comedy with a bit of sex).

I thought I'd never ever finish that one, actually, so am rather bouncy about it. Vila and Chiana aren't easy to write, no...

From: [identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com
Yes, thanks very much for organising this. It's a great idea and you did well. I don't think I've ever been in a ficathon where people didn't default.

I'd give the dates in US ones next time, or the day before the one you want. I know some ficathons do ask for e-mail addresses then e-mail you with reminders, but that still doesn't stop some people from failing to produce anything.

I liked this whole idea because no one was left story-less which can happen in the sort where you write for someone else.

Thanks again. I hope you do another one as you said you might.

I also succumed to the confusion over timezones - which is entirely my own North American fault - and to real life issues, but anyway.

Here's what I have of A Reason for Dancing (http://lady-smith.livejournal.com/29208.html) - Angel: The Seires, PG, very much unfinished.

I'm late, and I'm not finished (that's the state of things at work too, sigh...) and I haven't managed to stuff a plot into it yet.
But here 'tis.

Despite my unfinishedness and inadequacies, I want to say thank you too.

I have to admit, I messed up on dates too but with considerably less excuse - I thought "oh, it's still 28th over there" and blithely forgot (none so forgetful as them that don't wanna remember) that you're not over there, you're over here...

But I have no excuse except lack of inspiration and overabundance of RL (the Family Letter is also late - I must write that tomorrow or get disowned).

Date: 2006-01-29 04:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com
And I'd like to echo the "thank you"s!

Sadly, I think it was only to be expected that a number of people didn't finish. (And, personally, if I were almost finished or just waiting on a beta, I'd doubtless have held off a couple of days, myself, rules or not, because my dislike of posting things unfinished is possibly even greater than my dislike of missing deadlines. So I can understand that there was tardiness as well.) But, regardless, this was a very cool idea, and it prompted me to write something I'm not entirely unhappy with, and which I'm pretty sure I would never have written otherwise. And, while I haven't had the chance to read most of the posts yet, what I have read, finished or otherwise, has been good. Heck, I'd say this thing was entirely worthwhile just for having led to the production of the two stories I beta'd.
