Once I realized they were Mickey lyrics, and not Rose lyrics or anybody-else lyrics, it was easy. :)

I do think, after considerable reflection, that they suit Mickey even better than Rose, though... And not just because of my personal perception that Rose doesn't really grow as a character the way she's meant to. (A conviction that I can't quite shake, to the point where, if I had written Rose for this, I'm afraid it would have used the lyrics in a very dark and cynical way, something I didn't feel was quite in the right spirit. :)) Mickey, at the outset, seems so much meeker and weaker than Rose. In many ways, she acts bravely right from the beginning, whereas he has to be led to find it in himself and make a genuine effort to overcome the impulse towards settling for a quiet life of mediocrity. Such were my thoughts while I was pondering what to do with the story, anyway.

I briefly considered making it a Sarah Jane story, but lyrics like " I am small/And I speak when I'm spoken to" made it completely unworkable as a Sarah Jane story for me. Doctor or no Doctor, that was never Sarah. :)

Ah, yes, I will agree with that. But I think I like your Rose better than canon Rose, anyway. :)
