So, the results of this poll are such that I will probably be running the Multi-Fandom Lyric Wheel in June-July.

I will be using the AO3 ficathon engine for it, so anyone who wishes to participate will need to join that site: (http://archiveofourown.org/). I have an invite going spare, and I could probably get more if need be. Please let me know if you need one. There needs to be a minimum of ten people signing up to make this ficathon viable.

I have also revised the FAQ: please give feedback!

the main change this time seems to be: To help you resist temptation, I'll make it simple: no quoting of the lyrics at all.

Yeah, that's the main change, apart from the procedural changes due to the different venue.

I just felt it was simpler and more straightforward to say "no quoting lyrics at all" than to get into the fuzzy area of trying to figure out how many lines are okay to quote. And I dearly, dearly want to avoid the kind of stories which give "songfic" such a bad reputation.

Do you have a problem with the "no quoting" rule? I don't want to make it too difficult for people to write stories, if you think it does make things harder.

At first I thought that it might be a problem, but on reflection I don't think that it should be, so long as the person making the request chooses at leaast one song where the lyrics aren't too obscure.

Question about this: does "quoting" also cover use of a phrase that occurs in the song, whether in a line of dialogue or narrative... when it is *not* an actual quote? That sort of thing seemed to happen relatively often in previous Lyric Wheels.

I'm in total agreement with the spirit of the rule, you understand. :-D

Yeah, that happened in previous Lyric Wheels because I was modelling the rules after other Lyric Wheels I'd participated in, and they had rules that you were supposed to quote one (and only one) line of the lyrics as part of the narrative or dialogue, as an extra challenge. But now I feel as if that's more trouble than it's worth.

So, yes, the "quoting" also covers use in dialogue and/or narrative. Not that I'm going to be anal about it, but I just think it makes things simpler if one says "no quoting" than to put in reams of bylaws about when you can or can't quote. Just don't try to quote, and don't worry too much if you accidentally do.

Ah, okay. As long as I don't have to worry too much about it (for example, sometimes I become aware I've used a phrase from the lyrics, but it's in a very non-obvious way, to anyone who isn't me-the-author).
