kerravonsen: rainbow sparkles: "Squee!" (squee!)

One thing I am missing about this year's sign-ups is the squee that people would do when they saw what people have signed up with. So, in the name of "Take Back The Glee" Year, I hereby open the Post of Squee.

Take a look (and come back to) the Full Author List, and post here about the story ideas that you are squeeful about.

ETA2: I have added links back to this post, so you can click on a link at the individual author page and it will post it here! (I love it when a plan comes together)

Announcing... finish-a-thon 2009! Yes, we're doing it again.

Remember all those poor, neglected plot bunnies that have been starving from lack of attention, because all those ficathons kept on having higher priority? The stories you wish you could finish, if only you could find the time? Well, fear not, the finish-a-thon is coming to the rescue!

The finish-a-thon is a ficathon, with all the ficathon-like things like deadlines and fellow volunteers to encourage you, but with this ficathon, you write your own ideas. But since part of the encouragement of a ficathon is writing things for other people, what we're going to do, is vote for which story ideas people should write.

This year we're doing it a little differently; I have set up a website to facilitate the ficathon, including a handy-dandy sign-up form which should make entering all the information easier.
Thank you to all the people who helped me test it; the test data is all deleted now, so if you "signed up" in the test, then you now need to sign up for real (if you're signing up, that is).

Dates
Sign-ups end:
Australia - Saturday 21st March 2009, 8am
Rest of World (GMT) - 20th March 2009, 10pm

Stories due:
Australia - 27th May 2009, 10am
Rest of World (GMT) - 26th May 2009, midnight

(more detailed date information is in the Rules and FAQ page)

Edited to add: Note that you can edit your sign-up information as much as you want until the sign-up deadline, at which point editing will be disabled.

Hello peoples!
This year, I thought I'd do things a bit differently, to try to make signing up easier for both you and for me. So I have set up a sub-site for the finish-a-thon, with a pretty sign-up form, and all the rules and stuff.

http://www.katspace.org/Fiction/Ficathons/FinishAThon/2009/

I plead with y'all; since I want to start the sign-ups tomorrow (and darn, I have stayed up far far far too late working on this) -- make that, I would like to start the sign-ups about eight hours from now. I would really appreciate people checking it out; if you could look at it and play around, I intend to delete all sign-ups that are added before I officially open the ficathon, so you can mess around and tell me what's wrong.

1. Does the sign-up form work for you?
2. Are the instructions clear enough?
3. I've changed the rules a bit; any comments/problems with that?

Give me feedback to this post here, and I will be happy. Thank y'all.

Pencil in your diaries the months of April and May, which is when I'm planning to run the finish-a-thon (with polling in March). I know this overlaps with [livejournal.com profile] tardis_bigbang and [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang and [livejournal.com profile] dw_cross but it was totally impossible to find a time of year when it didn't overlap with something.

I want to run the finish-a-thon earlier next year. So here's a little poll about it.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, next weekend is going to be pre-empted by Real Life, so I'm giving everyone (including myself) a week's extension.

New due date:
Australia and New Zealand:
Stories finished: 1st November 2008, 10am

The Rest of the World (yes, that includes America):
(Greenwitch Mean Time)
Stories finished: 31st October 2008, midnight

Since [livejournal.com profile] rubynye just sent me a message saying she couldn't finish her finish-a-thon story, I figure that now is a good time to post the "help I can't finish" messages post.
If you find that you can't finish your finish-a-thon story, then comment in this post, so that I know (and so that all the non-finisher information is in one spot).

And the moment we have all been waiting for - the results!

Participants must undertake to complete their stories/writing targets, by midnight GMT, the 24th of October 2008.

Here is the voting for the finish-a-thon 2008! There are 21 participants this year.

Voting is now CLOSED.

Each participant has a list of plot-bunnies to vote for. Following that are two polls for each participant. The first poll is for anyone to vote in; the second poll is an extra vote for participants. You cannot vote in the second poll unless you are a member of [livejournal.com profile] multific and a participant.

Participants:
1) Can vote in all polls. You don't have to choose the same thing for your "extra" vote as for your initial vote. You don't even have to fill out your extra vote if you loathe the idea.
2) For the polls about your own bunnies, click on the "I am the author" option.

Everyone else:
1) Vote in only the first poll for each participant.
2) If you accidentally vote in the second poll when you shouldn't have, click on the "I am not a participant" option.

If you make a mistake, click on the link above the poll that says "Poll #NNNNN", then click on the link that says "Fill out poll", and you will then be able to correct your mistake by filling out the poll again.

I CANNOT CORRECT YOUR MISTAKES FOR YOU. The security of the polls do not allow me to alter any of the votes. As it should be!

Voting will finish at midnight GMT, on the 23rd of August; that's a week from now.

First, since I am going to be overseas when the stories are due, I'm giving everyone a week's extension. That means that stories will be due 10pm, 2nd November 2007 (GMT). You can post them to your journal/website earlier if you like, but the master-post won't be going up until then.

Second, if anyone has any "Sorry, I can't finish!" messages and the like, post them in the comments here -- that way they will all be in one place, and this post will be here, waiting for them.

Here is part 2 of the voting for the finish-a-thon 2007.

Voting is closed

How it works:
* Each participant's list of bunnies is given. After the bunny-list, there are two polls; one for participants to vote in, and the second for random people to vote in.
* Yes, this means that participants get two votes. It's a perk.
* People vote for which bunny they want the participant to write.
* If you are a participant, you must be a member of this community in order to vote in the "participants-only" sections; LJ won't allow you to vote in them otherwise.
* If you are a random person, you can only vote in the second poll for each participant (and you can only vote if you are a member of LJ, that's how LJ polls work).

Voting ends:
(Australian Eastern Standard Time) 6am, 31st August 2007
(Greenwich Mean Time) 10pm, 30th August 2007

Here is the voting for the finish-a-thon 2007!
Everyone signing up opted for the "all and sundry" option for voting, so that makes things a little less confusing. There are 35 participants! We-hee!

Note: It goes without saying that participants can't vote in their own polls. However, to see how the votes for your bunnies are going, you can submit the poll WITHOUT selecting anything, then you can see the results.

Mods, if this isn't allowed, feel free to delete, and please accept my apologies.

One of the most difficult things about writing fic is finding a beta. We've all been there; we write something we actually think might be decent, but we're not ready to put it out in the world without some kind of feedback. While many fandoms have established places to find betas, when you're transitioning to a new one, it can be difficult to locate a beta. To that end, we've created [livejournal.com profile] fandom_betas, a multi-fandom community created for the purposes of finding a beta. Or, if you're not sure that you want a regular beta reader, you can post your fic and get some constructive criticism.

So, join, friend, offer your services as a beta reader! We accept all fandoms, no matter how small or large, known or unknown.

The purpose of this group is for organising ficathons and challenges, and to post (if needed) the stories resulting from said challenges. It is NOT for posting random stories. It is NOT for pimping other communities. Okay?

Any such posts will be deleted by the administrator (me).

If you want to announce a ficathon or a challenge that lives somewhere else, the [livejournal.com profile] multificathon community is the place to go.
